Dating Direct is certainly high tech; they have a feature that lets you get SMS alerts via your mobile or cell phone.

They say they are UK's largest dating service with over 1,150,000 active members each having a detailed profile. But at the same time they also let you choose different countries including USA and Australia.

Focused on "real profiles" rather than people just messing around they are using manual reviews to make sure everything is legitimate.  Quality rather than quantity seems to be their motto.

It was mentioned in this BBC article about someone who used their site to get a few too many dates -- about 100 -- and have sex with all the ladies.
